Pretty in Peach

A gracious invitation communicates all the wedding details while providing a hint of the beauty and elegance of the upcoming wedding. Decorated with a handcrafted medallion bearing the couple's first initials, this computer-printed invitation looks like a custom card-shop creation.

Continue the theme of monograms with rose-petal initials on the lawn. Because this is the entry point to the processional aisle, the monogram features the initials of the couple's first names only. To create the design, a few rose petals were plotted on the grass (inspired by a font enlarged on the computer) to establish the right shape and size first, and then more petals were used to add fullness.

Hand-tied bouquets offer a relaxed floral design. To make this bouquet, use three to five roses stripped of leaves and thorns, and place them in your left hand. Use your right hand to add white tulips, snapdragons, and lilies-of-the-valley. Create the center, then add hydrangeas around the perimeter. Trim the stems and use florist's wire, spiraled from top to bottom, to hold the stems together. Wrap the stems with ribbon, and a tie a beautiful bow.

Junior bridesmaid dresses, in keeping with the formality of the bride's gown, feature beautiful fabrics and satin ribbon. But while the girls' sashes match one another, the dresses are two distinct styles so each pair of processional attendants is unique.

Send your flower girls down the aisle in style carrying purchased petal-covered baskets you've embellished with satin ribbon.

Down the Aisle
Frothy white tulle swoops across the center aisle as the junior bridesmaids proceed to the altar with their swags. Create the tulle swags using metal drapery rods with decorative finials on the top. At the altar, the bottom of the rod slips into a PVC-holder planted in the ground and the tulling forms a tentlike structure for the nuptials.

The columns, an existing feature in this garden, were dressed for the day with cubes of florist's foam covered with carnations and roses. The cubes are hollow in the center so a floral arrangement, similar to those used for the reception, fits inside.

Dressed for the Day
The oyster-color jacquard ball gown by Vera Wang features a strapless, fitted bodice and full sweeping skirt. The original bows on the back of the dress were exchanged for magnolia-color double-face satin ones to match the sash on the bride's bouquet.

For warm-weather events, handmade fans are the perfect keepsake and ceremony program. These fans feature the first-initial monogram on top of another repeating element, the diamond-grid motif, created by an artist to represent the paned windows of the mansion where the wedding was held.

Stately gladiolus back a playful grouping of white tulips for a happy entrance to each row of chairs. The arrangements were hand-tied and attached to the chairs using florist's wire and treated with a French wire-ribbon bow to add color to the aisle.

Flowers for a Lady
The bridal bouquet is a celebration in white. It features a lush cascade of calla lilies, roses, tulips, freesias, Dendrobium orchids, and lilies-of-the-valley.

An Inspiring Setting
Architectural elements can be a source of inspiration for your wedding paper designs. Here, the wedding site, a historic mansion called the Salisbury House, provided inspiration. The leaded-glass windowpanes feature a crosshatch pattern that's repeated in some of the wedding elements.

The escort cards picked up by the guests as they enter the reception area will guide them to the correct tables.

A Fairy-Tale Setting
Tall floral arrangements add drama to the long reception table. The height of the silver flutes takes the flowers above the heads of the seated guests. Tulle connects the arrangements, while more tulle works to soften the tent's structural elements.
The tablecloths are a solid coral-color fabric with a sheer cream-color embroidered overlay. (The fabrics are taped in place down the center of the table, and the tape is covered with long strips of wide, double-faced satin ribbon.) White flowers include the dinner-plate-size dahlias on the chair backs and clustered hydrangeas in clear glass containers running down the table center.

To establish the head table as a place of honor for the bride and groom, create a one-of-a-kind floral centerpiece. Use only the most beautiful and lightly fragrant flowers to guarantee a pleasant experience, and keep the height low enough for picture taking. Here, mounds of pristine hydrangeas spiked with an abundance of roses, tulips, and freesias fill a silver footed bowl.

For the Bride and Groom
Honor the bride and groom with a unique treatment for their chairs. Here, an abundance of coral-color organdy fabric is draped over the chairs and fashioned into unstructured slipcovers. The no-sew covers are held in place with elegant, double-face satin ribbon. Fresh flower corsages are pinned to the chair backs.

The architectural element was translated into a diamond-grid motif that bands the top of the menu on either side of the monogram.

Help guests find their seats by labeling each table with a name. The names for this wedding have significance because of the bride and groom's penchant for flowers and their desire to coordinate with the site's architecture.

Favors with Flair
Give guests a tiny memento that has special meaning in wedding tradition. The glassine envelope is filled with five candied almonds and an insert card sharing that each almond represents a wish -- health, wealth, long life, fertility, and happiness -- for the happy couple.

The cake-tent columns feature a faux-marble technique that uses a wallpaperlike paper torn into pieces and glued to cardboard concrete forms. The top and bottom of the poles are hidden by clusters of hydrangeas and greens.

White-on-white fondant flowers, delicate scrolls, and fleur-de-lis designs set off this cake in classic style. See more of the cake decorations and the top tier on the following slides.

The cake is a tantalizing addition to wedding-day decor. Surround the cake with a fresh-flower border by poking blooms into a watertight, florist's-foam base. The cake topper is created by taping a floral dish fitted with florist's foam onto a silver candleholder. The arrangement includes roses, Dendrobium orchids, tulips, freesias, and lilies-of-the-valley. (Note: Because some non-food-safe flowers are included, the upper cake layer is artificial.)

More Floral Embellishments
Flowers also adorn the bottom of the cake, forming a wreath-like circle around the cake platter.

The tallest tier of this eye-catching cake is adorned with a frosting monogram that declares the couple's union. This is the first time in the celebration that the two first-name initials are joined with the newly married couple's last-name initial.

Inside the favor boxes, cocoa powder (that has been dusted through a monogram stencil) tops off delectable shortbreads.

Handfuls of rose petals cascading down on a just married couple are twice as nice as rice or birdseed and require less cleanup later. To ensure the utmost petal-shower fun, make sure you have a small container of petals for every person present -- and a few extra for the kids.
